MEDFORD MAN JAILED FOR BURGLARY

A Medford man was arrested for burglary and other charges on Wednesday.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said around 6:00 a.m. dispatchers received a report that two Glide women had been awakened to find an intruder in their home. The caller said she found the suspect in her kitchen. She and another adult female in the home confronted the man who then left.

O’Dell said deputies along with troopers from Oregon State Police responded and were able to identify the man from a photograph taken by the homeowner, as 30-year old Michael Gilligan.

While searching the area, deputies located Gilligan walking on the North Umpqua Highway with a backpack. O’Dell said deputies saw the suspect enter a vehicle owned by the Glide School District and look through several compartments. Deputies detained Gilligan and learned he had entered another vehicle in the area and had stolen the backpack he was wearing. O’Dell said the man was also in possession of a gallon of milk and a can of beets, which are suspected of being stolen.

Gilligan was charged with first degree burglary, two counts of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, second-degree theft and third-degree criminal mischief. He was detained on $270,000 bail.
