BEND, Ore. — Drivers around Bend should prepare for several road closures, lane restrictions and detours during the week of Sept. 28 through Oct. 4 as construction projects and special events affect traffic across the city.
Among the most significant impacts will be closures associated with the Bend Fall Festival. The event runs Friday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m., with closures planned on Wall Street between Franklin and Greenwood avenues, Oregon Avenue between Brooks Street and Lava Road, and Minnesota Avenue between Wall Street and Lava Road.
The Bend Fall Foot Races will also affect traffic Sunday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event, which includes a half marathon, will primarily use sidewalks and Bend Park and Recreation District trails, but runners will cross some higher-traffic streets with assistance from certified flaggers. Impacts include NW Galveston Avenue between NW Harmon Boulevard and NW Riverfront Street and NW Portland Avenue between NW Wall Street and NW Steidl Road.
Construction will create additional disruptions throughout the week.
Beaumont Drive between Glen Falls Place and Joseph Way is scheduled for a full closure with a detour from Sept. 28 through Oct. 5 for service installations.
NW Arizona Avenue between NW Wall and NW Bond streets is scheduled for a single-lane closure and lane shift Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for utility installations.
Other ongoing restrictions include a southbound lane closure and detour on Nels Anderson Road between Empire Avenue and North Highway 97 through Oct. 23. NW Harriman Street between NW Kearney and NW Greenwood avenues is closed through Oct. 9 for infrastructure work associated with the Deschutes County Courthouse.
NE Vail Lane between NE Eighth and NE Sixth streets also remains closed to through traffic through Oct. 9, with local access maintained.
On NW Wall Street, water service installation work between NW Colorado and NW Arizona avenues is resulting in a single-lane closure with a lane shift through Oct. 2.
The southbound lane of NE Division Street between Highway 20 and NW Lakeside Place remains closed with a detour through Oct. 2 for canal restoration work.
Longer-term projects are also continuing around Bend, including work on Cooley Road and Ranch Village Drive, the Franklin Avenue Improvements Project, the NE Second Street water main replacement and the Bend Bikeway Project.
The Franklin Avenue undercrossing between Harriman and First streets remains closed to vehicles through the end of May. The city lists Third Street, Greenwood Avenue, Wall and Bond streets as detour routes, while Olney and Colorado avenues remain accessible.
On Highway 20, Oregon Department of Transportation crews are replacing ADA ramps at several intersections during overnight work from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work is expected to continue through October and includes the Powers Road, Butler Market Road, Purcell Boulevard and 27th Street intersections.
The City of Bend said construction schedules can change depending on weather and other factors. Drivers are advised to use designated detours and exercise additional caution when traveling through construction zones.
