Teen Killed in Head-On Collision South of Redmond

Bend, OR – A 16-year-old Bend Senior High School student was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening south of Redmond, according to Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. near the intersection of SW Canal Boulevard and Quarry Avenue. Authorities say the teen, driving a Subaru Legacy, was heading north on Canal Boulevard when he crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. The Subaru collided head-on with a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck traveling south, driven by a 56-year-old Salem man.

The teen driver of the Subaru was critically injured in the crash and was transported to St. Charles Bend for treatment. Despite efforts to save him, he later succumbed to his injuries. The Toyota Tacoma driver was uninjured, while his passenger, a 31-year-old man from Salem, sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Charles Redmond for medical care.

Witnesses reported the crash, prompting a swift response from emergency responders. Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision.

The incident has shaken the local community, as the victim was a student at Bend Senior High School. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the crash to come forward as part of the ongoing investigation.
