Search Underway for Missing Woman in Harney County

BURNS, Ore. — A search effort is intensifying in Harney County after a woman was reported missing on Friday. The Harney County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 29-year-old Kaylee Birt was last seen leaving The Fields Station in her car. Birt, described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes, has not been heard from since.

The vehicle, a gold 2008 Chevy Malibu, was discovered early Sunday morning in a remote area of Southern Harney County, but there was no sign of Birt. Authorities said the car was located on a road that had recently been washed out, although there are no current floodwaters in the region. Despite extensive searches in the area, Birt remains missing.

Harney County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Lottie Presley stated that the search efforts over the weekend focused on areas where Birt’s phone last pinged. The search party includes deputies, local ranchers on horseback and 4-wheelers, a K9 team from Grant County Search and Rescue, and Oregon State Police. These teams have been working tirelessly in the rugged terrain of Southern Harney County, hoping to find any signs of Birt.

Birt is known to have two tattoos, one of a lighthouse on her right wrist and another of a Christian fish and cross with the verse Romans 8:31 on the bottom of her foot. Authorities are urging anyone who may have information about Birt’s whereabouts to contact them immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Harney County Sheriff’s Office at 541-573-6156.

As the search continues, the community remains hopeful that Birt will be found safe.
