City of Bend Announces Closure of Olney Avenue and Wall Street for Pedestrian, Bicycle, and Infrastructure Improvements

Bend, OR – The City of Bend is notifying drivers of an upcoming intersection closure at Olney Avenue and Wall Street, set to begin Monday, as part of the Olney Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements Project, along with essential water and sewer infrastructure upgrades. The closure, expected to last several months, will significantly impact traffic flow in the area.

According to the City of Bend, the closure will span from the intersection of Portland Avenue/Steidl Road on the west side of the Deschutes River, extending through the intersection of Wall Street/Olney Avenue to NE First Street. The intersection is anticipated to reopen to vehicle traffic by June 2025.

As construction progresses, drivers can expect detours and delays along Portland and Olney avenues. In particular, construction on Olney Avenue between First and Second Streets will require periodic closures of intersections and roads throughout the spring and summer. The overall project is slated for completion in fall 2025, with detour routes clearly marked for drivers to follow.

For those needing to navigate around the construction zone, the City is advising drivers to use NW Ninth Street, Newport Avenue, NE Third Street, Revere Avenue, and southbound US 97 (the Parkway).

While vehicle traffic will be affected, pedestrians and cyclists will still have access to the Deschutes River Trail, which will remain open during the road closures. Additionally, business access will be maintained throughout the construction process, with clear signage in place to direct customers to alternate routes.

Access to Riverside Animal Hospital, located at 25 NW Olney Avenue, will be available via Norton Avenue, just south of Wall Street Suites, where it bisects the parking lots.

City officials urge drivers and pedestrians to plan accordingly and follow posted detour signs as the project progresses.
