Bend, OR — A local man was arrested on Friday afternoon after violating a restraining order, attacking the victim, and fleeing from police.
At approximately 12:06 p.m. on January 3, officers responded to a call in the 100 block of SE Bridgeford Boulevard, where Gregory Ross Gehring, 42, allegedly showed up at the victim’s place of employment. According to reports, Gehring physically attacked the victim and prevented her from calling 911. The victim confirmed that Gehring was in violation of a stalking order that prohibited him from having contact with her.
Police soon determined that Gehring had a history of stalking the victim, which led to the court order barring him from any contact. Shortly after the initial incident, officers were notified that Gehring had returned to his home at 20300 Silver Sage Street.
Upon arriving at Gehring’s residence, police were met with resistance. Gehring fled the scene, jumping over fences and running through several neighboring yards in an attempt to evade capture. Authorities quickly launched a search, deploying drones and a K9 unit to assist in the pursuit.
By 3:24 p.m., officers located Gehring in the backyard of a residence in the 61130 block of Benham Road. After a brief search, he was taken into custody without further incident.
Gehring was transported to the Deschutes County Jail and is facing charges related to the restraining order violation, physical assault, and attempting to evade law enforcement. Police have not released further details regarding the victim’s condition.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the case or similar incidents to come forward.
