19-year-old man dies following motorcycle crash at the intersection of SE Second Street and Miller Avenue

Bend, OR – The Bend Police Department reported that a 19-year-old Redmond resident died following a motorcycle crash Friday evening at the intersection of SE Second Street and Miller Avenue in Bend, Oregon.

Police said the crash occurred at approximately 6:28 p.m. when a motorcycle traveling northbound on Second Street at a high rate of speed collided head-on with a Subaru Crosstrek driven by a 25-year-old Bend man. Investigators said the driver of the Subaru had been traveling southbound on Second Street and was attempting to turn east onto Miller Avenue when the collision occurred.

The motorcycle’s passenger, 19-year-old Malachi Longstroth of Redmond, Oregon, died at the scene. The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old Bend man, was thrown from the motorcycle and transported to St. Charles Medical Center with serious injuries.

Officers at the scene rendered aid using an automated external defibrillator, performed CPR, and applied tourniquets before emergency medical personnel arrived. The Subaru driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The department’s crash reconstruction team responded, and SE Second Street was closed for approximately three hours while the investigation was conducted. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
