Bend, OR – A 26-year-old Bend resident was critically injured Friday night after being struck by a vehicle on NE Third Street near Thurston Avenue. The crash occurred at approximately 8:16 p.m. on October 17.
When Bend Police officers arrived, they found a white RAV4 stopped in the northbound lanes and the injured man in the roadway. Officers provided lifesaving aid until Bend Fire medics arrived and transported the victim to St. Charles, where he remains in critical condition.
According to police, the driver—a 61-year-old Idaho man—called 911 to report that he had struck a man who was crossing the street with a bike. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
NE Third Street was closed in both directions between Revere and Underwood avenues for about two and a half hours while the Bend Police traffic reconstruction team investigated. The investigation remains ongoing, and no citations have been issued at this time.
