Bend, OR – The City of Bend is inviting residents to participate in an online open house for the Bend Bikeway Project, providing an opportunity for the community to review and offer feedback on the final design before construction begins in 2025. The online open house is available at bendoregon.gov/bendbikeway and will remain open until January 2, 2025.
The Bend Bikeway Project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve transportation safety and accessibility. As part of its commitment to enhancing the local transportation network, the project focuses on creating safer connections for people who walk, bike, or roll throughout the community. The new bikeway is designed to improve mobility between neighborhoods, schools, parks, businesses, and other important destinations across the city.
According to city officials, the project will build a comprehensive bikeway system that prioritizes safety and connectivity. This includes the creation of a north-south and an east-west route that will connect key parts of the city. By making use of existing infrastructure, the project aims to expand and protect bike and pedestrian pathways, offering residents safer travel options.
“Community members have told us they want safer ways to get around town on bike or foot, and that’s exactly what this project will provide,” said Bend Mayor Melanie Kebler. She emphasized that improving safety for cyclists and pedestrians is a top priority for the City Council, aligning with the city’s broader goals of fostering sustainable transportation options and promoting healthier, more active lifestyles.
The open house offers the final chance for public input before the city’s project team moves forward with finalizing designs and preparing for construction. Residents are encouraged to visit the online portal to learn more about the proposed improvements and share their thoughts on the project.
Once construction begins, the new bikeways are expected to provide safer routes for cyclists and pedestrians, while also helping to reduce traffic congestion and encourage more sustainable transportation choices. With the project expected to make a significant impact on the city’s infrastructure, local leaders are hopeful that it will be a step toward creating a more connected, walkable, and bike-friendly Bend.
