Portland, OR — A 37-year-old woman was taken into custody after a teenager was shot on Friday evening in North Portland, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).
At approximately 6:27 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 5000 block of North Vancouver Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 17-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. Police administered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, and the teenager was then transported to a local hospital. Authorities said the teenager’s injuries are non-life-threatening, and he remains in stable condition.
Following the shooting, investigators determined that the suspect had fled to a nearby apartment. Officers surrounded the residence and attempted to make contact with the woman inside. After several failed attempts to convince her to surrender, the PPB’s Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were called to the scene.
After a standoff lasting several hours, the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Natasha V. Molett, eventually exited the apartment and surrendered peacefully. She was taken into custody without further incident.
Molett has been booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on multiple charges, including second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault, felon in possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon.
As part of their investigation, members of the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) seized a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.
Police continue to investigate the incident, and anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Portland Police Bureau.
