Woman Dies After Shooting in Gresham Apartment Complex Parking Lot

Bend, OR – A woman who was critically injured in a shooting outside a Gresham apartment complex last week has died from her injuries, according to local police.

The incident occurred on the morning of December 10, just after 3 a.m., at an apartment complex located in the 1300 block of Southwest Pleasant View Drive. Authorities say the shooting stemmed from an argument between two individuals over loud music. The dispute escalated quickly, resulting in the victim, identified as 49-year-old Susan Henson, being shot in the parking lot.

Paramedics rushed Henson to Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Hospital, where she received emergency treatment for her critical injuries. However, on Monday, Gresham Police confirmed that Henson had succumbed to her wounds.

Police have not yet identified a suspect in the shooting, but the investigation is ongoing. Officers are working to piece together the events leading up to the argument and shooting, and they are asking anyone with information to come forward.

While many details remain unclear, the case highlights the growing concerns about violence stemming from seemingly trivial disputes. Residents of the complex described the area as usually quiet, making the shooting particularly shocking for the community.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss,” said Gresham Police Chief, Emily Johnson. “Our thoughts are with Ms. Henson’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. We are committed to finding the person responsible for this senseless act of violence.”

Neighbors have expressed concern about the incident and the safety of the complex, which is typically home to families and working professionals. Some said they were unaware of any previous problems in the area.

“I just can’t believe something like this happened here,” said one resident, who requested to remain anonymous. “It’s such a quiet place. It’s a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong.”

The investigation is still in its early stages, and authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about the suspect’s identity to contact the Gresham Police Department.

Henson’s death marks the second homicide in Gresham this year, according to police records. As the community mourns the loss of a woman described by friends as kind and thoughtful, many are left grappling with the question of how such a small disagreement could end in such a tragic and violent outcome.
