Portland Woman Arrested After Stabbing, Threatening Campers, and Stealing Sleeping Bag in Lloyd District

Portland, OR  — A woman was arrested on multiple charges Saturday afternoon following a violent incident in Portland’s Lloyd District. Police say the woman, later identified as 52-year-old Angelique Butler, stabbed a man, threatened two campers with a knife, and stole their sleeping bag.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers responded to a call reporting a stabbing at the intersection of North Williams Avenue and Northeast Multnomah Street at 10:59 a.m. on Saturday. Upon arriving just minutes later, officers learned that the victim of the stabbing had already fled the scene before police could make contact.

While investigating the incident, police spoke with two individuals who were camping in the area. The campers told officers that they had been approached by the same woman, who allegedly threatened them with a knife and demanded their sleeping bag. They reported that Butler then stole the item before fleeing the area.

Authorities soon located Butler, who was in possession of the stolen sleeping bag and a large knife. She was arrested and taken into custody without incident. Butler was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of second-degree robbery, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Despite the quick response from officers, the man who was stabbed remains unaccounted for, and police have been unable to locate him for further questioning. The circumstances surrounding his injury, as well as the potential connection between the stabbing and Butler’s other actions, remain under investigation.

This incident highlights growing concerns in Portland’s urban areas, where tensions related to homelessness, mental health, and public safety continue to rise. It also underscores the unpredictable nature of violent crimes in public spaces, with vulnerable individuals often caught in the crossfire.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the stabbing or the whereabouts of the injured man to come forward.
