PORTLAND, Ore. — A vehicle fire on Highway 26 caused major delays for commuters Monday morning as fire crews responded to a car engulfed in flames in the westbound lanes near the Jefferson Street off-ramp.

The incident occurred shortly before 8:55 a.m., according to emergency dispatch reports. The burning vehicle was located in the far-left lane, partially obstructing traffic as crews worked to extinguish the flames.

Portland Fire & Rescue arrived at the scene within minutes and quickly brought the blaze under control. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and officials have not yet released details about the vehicle or its occupants. Drivers experienced significant delays as authorities temporarily closed the affected lane and directed traffic around the scene.

Commuters were advised to seek alternate routes while cleanup and investigation efforts continued.

The Oregon Department of Transportation has not provided an estimated timeline for the full reopening of the highway.
