Bend Man Arrested After Stabbing Incident, Faces Assault and Weapon Charges

Bend, OR – A Bend man was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly stabbing another man the previous day in an incident that occurred at the Campfire Hotel. Kienan Dean Maximchuk, 31, faces charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon following the stabbing.

According to Bend police, officers responded to the Campfire Hotel around 3:15 p.m. on Monday after a man entered the lobby with reports of a stabbing. The victim told authorities that the attack took place in the 200 block of NE Franklin Avenue, where he was stabbed once by an unknown person. Despite the violent nature of the attack, the victim was transported to St. Charles Bend with only minor injuries.

The investigation quickly led officers to identify Maximchuk as the suspect. The following afternoon, around 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, detectives, patrol officers, and the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a campsite near Butler Market Road and the Bend Parkway. During the operation, officers detained a 30-year-old woman with an outstanding warrant for a parole violation before apprehending Maximchuk.

As officers attempted to arrest Maximchuk, they deployed police K-9 Maggie, who bit the suspect during the arrest. Maximchuk suffered minor injuries as a result, which were treated at the scene. He was then taken to the Bend Police Department and later transferred to the Deschutes County Jail.

Maximchuk was arraigned on Wednesday afternoon, where he faced charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. A judge set his next court appearance for Feb. 19, with an expected formal indictment. He is currently being held on $100,000 bail.

The woman detained alongside Maximchuk remains in jail on the parole violation warrant. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
