Bend Police Arrest Suspect in Stillwater Crossing Apartment Shooting

BEND, Ore. — A 20-year-old Bend man was seriously injured and another man arrested following a shooting Tuesday night at the Stillwater Crossing Apartments in southwest Bend, according to police.

Bend Police said officers responded around 9:12 p.m. to reports of gunfire at the apartment complex, located off Highway 97 near Murphy Road. Multiple callers reported hearing shots and seeing people running through the parking lot, as well as vehicles speeding away from the scene.

“I was just sitting on the couch. All of a sudden, I heard three shots,” said Vonya Pratt, a resident of the complex. “I looked out and didn’t see anything, so I went back and sat down. Then all of a sudden, the cops were here.”

Police later determined the victim had been driven away from the scene. Officers located him at the intersection of Powers Road and the Bend Parkway, where they administered first aid until medics arrived. The man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, which he is expected to survive.

Investigators identified the shooting suspect as 21-year-old Iziah Nicholas Coleman, also of Bend. Police said Coleman checked into a Motel 6 on NE Third Street shortly after the incident. Around 12:43 a.m., the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team took Coleman into custody without incident.

Coleman was booked into the Deschutes County Jail on multiple charges, including first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless endangering, and felon in possession of a firearm.

Officers obtained a warrant to search Coleman’s apartment and searched the surrounding parking lot for evidence. Residents were instructed to remain indoors during the investigation.

“There was a big police presence,” said John Deeter, another Stillwater Crossing resident. “We were told to get back into our apartment. It was really scary with so many people around and all the police.”

Police said the complex’s high population density added to the urgency and complexity of the response.

“We’re really thankful that we were able to track down the suspect and get him into custody safely,” said Bend Police Communications Manager Sheila Miller.

The investigation remains ongoing.
