Man Arrested for Assaulting Minor in Charleston Harbor

CHARLESTON, Ore. – A 40-year-old man has been arrested following an alleged assault on a minor in the Charleston Harbor area on Wednesday, March 26, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 5 p.m., deputies responded to a call reporting the assault. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers located the minor, who had managed to flee from the suspect and seek refuge in a nearby bathroom stall.

The suspect was identified as Kiel Smith, a 40-year-old man, who was located shortly after the incident at the Seaport RV Park. After conducting a thorough investigation, deputies established probable cause for Smith’s arrest.

Smith was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges, including Domestic Assault 4 (Felony), Strangulation, and Menacing.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details regarding the nature of the assault or the relationship between Smith and the minor involved. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and further updates may be provided as the case progresses.

Smith remains in custody at the Coos County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.
