Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer Receives Pipe Bomb Threat at Oregon Home

Bend, OR – Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Oregon, was targeted with a pipe bomb threat at her residence in Clackamas County on Tuesday night. The threat prompted a quick response from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, which worked to ensure the safety of Chavez-DeRemer and her family.

In a statement on social media, Chavez-DeRemer confirmed that she and her loved ones were unharmed. “We deeply appreciate their dedication to protecting our community, especially as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches,” she wrote, referring to law enforcement’s swift action. “This kind of violence harms not just the intended targets, but entire communities.”

The incident is part of a broader wave of threats targeting public figures. According to a statement from a spokesperson for President-elect Donald Trump, Chavez-DeRemer was one of several individuals in the Trump administration’s orbit who received threats on Tuesday and Wednesday. The threats included bomb alerts as well as “swatting” incidents—false reports intended to provoke a response from SWAT teams.

Chavez-DeRemer, who lost her reelection bid earlier this month, was nominated by President Trump last week to serve as U.S. Secretary of Labor. In this capacity, she would oversee the Department of Labor’s budget, workforce, and focus on the rights and well-being of both employers and workers.

A spokesperson for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the agency’s response to the threat but deferred further inquiries to the FBI, which is now handling the investigation. Chavez-DeRemer, who previously served as mayor of Happy Valley before her election to Congress in 2022, expressed confidence that the threats would not deter her or the Trump administration’s work.

“This will not deter President Trump and the team he has assembled from doing the work on behalf of the American people,” she said in her statement.

The FBI is continuing its investigation into the threat, though no further details have been released at this time.
