RootedHomes Launches Housing Lottery for Affordable Homes in Redmond, Oregon

REDMOND, Ore. – RootedHomes has officially opened the housing lottery for its much-anticipated Rooted at 19th development in Redmond. This initiative provides an opportunity for eligible homebuyers to purchase homes at below-market rates in one of Central Oregon’s growing communities. The lottery is now open and will accept applications through May 15th.

Located at 345 NW 19th Street, just north of Hugh Hartman Elementary, the new development includes a mix of energy-efficient homes and a century-old farmhouse. The homes in this sustainable community will be available for buyers earning up to 80% of the Deschutes County area median income (AMI), with additional options for those earning above 80%.

The community consists of 22 newly constructed, net-zero energy duplexes and triplexes, offering eleven two-bedroom homes (1,060 sq. ft.) and eleven three-bedroom homes (1,460 sq. ft.). In addition, a renovated four-bedroom farmhouse (1,663 sq. ft.) is available for those qualifying for higher income levels.

Affordable Housing with Sustainability in Mind

RootedHomes is committed to providing affordable housing that prioritizes sustainability and energy efficiency. Each new home in the development is equipped with rooftop solar panels and passive energy-saving designs to help lower long-term utility costs for residents. The homes also come fully equipped with appliances, including a washer and dryer.

The prices for the two-bedroom homes are set at $258,000, while the three-bedroom homes are priced at $293,000. The four-bedroom farmhouse is listed at $380,000. To further assist potential buyers, $18,000 in down payment assistance is available for qualifying households.

Supporting the Local Workforce and Community

In addition to its affordable pricing and energy-efficient features, RootedHomes is focused on strengthening the local workforce. The development has garnered support from local employers like Mosaic Medical, whose Director of HR, Jennifer Stewart, emphasized the importance of workforce housing. “We’ve been dedicated to workforce housing for many years and are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with RootedHomes,” said Stewart. “Two of our employees were selected for the Rooted at Simpson community in Bend, and we’re excited to continue our partnership on the upcoming Rooted at 19th community in Redmond.”

One of the standout features of the development is its community garden, which has been developed in collaboration with The Environmental Center (TEC). The garden will not only provide fresh, locally grown produce but will also serve as a venue for educational opportunities through TEC’s School to Garden program. This initiative aims to engage residents in sustainable gardening practices and foster a sense of community.

How to Apply

The housing lottery is open to the public, but applicants must meet specific criteria to qualify. Those interested must complete a mandatory information session and obtain mortgage preapproval before submitting an application through the RootedHomes website. The deadline for applications is May 15th.

RootedHomes is also offering a preference point to veterans who apply, recognizing their service and dedication to the community.

As Tess Spellacy, RootedHomes’ Homeownership Program Director, stated, “With the launch of our first Redmond community, RootedHomes is opening the door to a future where more Central Oregon families can truly call this place home.”

The Rooted at 19th development represents a significant step in addressing the affordable housing needs in Central Oregon while also promoting sustainability and community engagement.
