Oregon Employment Department Issues Correction for 1099-G Tax Forms

Bend, Ore. — The Oregon Employment Department (OED) has identified errors in some 1099-G tax forms issued earlier this year for Unemployment Insurance benefits paid in 2024. The department has confirmed that approximately 12,000 forms, or 5 percent of the total issued, require updates due to discrepancies in the data.

In a statement, OED Director David Gerstenfeld expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to affected individuals, acknowledging the disruption the errors may have caused during tax season. “We are very sorry for the inconvenience this caused some people,” Gerstenfeld said. “The Employment Department is committed to providing people with accurate information as quickly as possible, which is why our employees are working hard to follow up with each impacted person with more specific information about their situation.”

The errors occurred during the initial issuance of the 1099-G forms, which provide essential information for taxpayers to report government payments received during the year. The mistakes were linked to the rollout of the Frances Online system, a new platform launched by OED on March 4, 2024, to manage unemployment benefits alongside the legacy system.

In response, the OED has implemented updates to the Frances Online system to correct the errors. Impacted claimants have been notified through automated messages in their Frances Online accounts, where the corrected forms are now available for download. Additionally, physical copies of the revised forms have been mailed to those affected.

The department is continuing to validate the corrected forms and has assured individuals that further updates and guidance will be provided. The OED’s Unemployment Insurance 1099-G information page has been updated to include answers to frequently asked questions, helping individuals navigate the correction process.

OED has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all claimants receive accurate tax documentation and is working to minimize any further disruptions to the tax filing process.
