Eugene Man Arrested for Repeatedly Misusing 911 to Report Bizarre Claims

Eugene, OR– A Eugene man has been arrested after allegedly making more than two dozen inappropriate 911 calls, leading to charges for improper use of an emergency reporting system.

Basil Clough, 52, is accused of repeatedly contacting emergency dispatchers to report a variety of unusual and unfounded claims. According to court documents, Clough’s calls included statements about his political views, time travel, and even bizarre reports such as his blanket allegedly smelling like murder. He also reportedly told dispatchers that emergency responders were murderers and that he had been sexually assaulted by aliens.

Despite multiple warnings from dispatchers, Clough continued to misuse the emergency system. Court filings reveal that he was informed each time that 911 should only be used for actual emergencies and that he could face arrest if the calls continued.

The situation escalated when Clough made six calls to 911 on the same day that a search warrant was obtained for his arrest. Police attempted to contact him at his residence on Quaker Street, but Clough refused to come outside, prompting officers to execute the warrant and arrest him inside his home.

As a result of these incidents, Clough now faces five counts of improper use of an emergency reporting system. Local authorities are reminding residents of the importance of reserving 911 calls for genuine emergencies to ensure that resources are available for those in need.
