Deschutes County Sheriff’s Work Crew Completes Significant Community Service Projects

Bend, OR – The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Adult Jail work crew has logged a remarkable 67.5 hours of service this month, with 40 of those hours dedicated to community improvement efforts.

One of the crew’s most notable achievements took place in La Pine, where they worked for five days cleaning up abandoned campsites and illegal dumping sites. The extensive cleanup operation resulted in the removal of over 38,000 pounds of trash. The work crew made 17 trips to the South Transfer Station, hauling a significant amount of refuse, which included 62 tires, various appliances, and even a hot tub. In addition to the debris, the crew also disposed of 214 hypodermic needles, ensuring the area was not only cleared but also made safer for residents.

“We want to thank the Newberry Regional Partnership for their generous support in covering most of the dump fees,” a spokesperson from the Sheriff’s Office said. “We also apologize to the Lapine Transfer Station for filling up their entire metal recycling bay.”

In addition to the La Pine cleanup, the work crew was involved in other community-oriented tasks. They cleared leaves from the Pilot Butte Cemetery and removed more than 20 cubic yards of debris from the Terrebonne sub-station.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Adult Jail work crew continues to play a vital role in improving the community, contributing significant hours of service that benefit the environment and public safety.
