City of Bend launches 2026 One Water student video contest

Bend, OR – The City of Bend has launched its 2026 One Water Student Video Contest in honor of the 100-year anniversary of the city’s Water Services.

The contest invites students in grades 6 through 12 to create a 30-second video celebrating a century of exceptional water in Bend. Students are asked to highlight the city’s water history, its impact on the community, and the innovations that have helped maintain high water quality for the past 100 years.

According to the city, students should choose one aspect of Bend’s water system history and tell a short story explaining why the city’s water legacy still matters today. Possible topics include the beginnings of Bend’s water system, where the city’s water comes from, how the system has changed over time, the journey of water from its source to homes, water’s role in Bend’s growth and environment, or conservation and sustainability efforts past and present.

“This contest offers students a creative platform to explore how water service has shaped Bend’s identity and well-being,” said Lori Faha, the city’s Environmental Resources Manager. She said the goal is to encourage students to use visual storytelling to reflect on shared history while inspiring future water stewardship.

The contest is presented in partnership with Central Oregon Daily and BendFilm. The grand prize winner will receive $1,000 and the opportunity to work with Central Oregon Daily to professionally produce their video for broadcast on local television.

Additional awards include $100 prizes for one winner in grades 6–8 and one winner in grades 9–12. Teachers of winning students are also eligible for cash awards.

The contest is open to all Bend students in grades 6 through 12. Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on May 1, 2026.
