Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Central Oregon as Snowfall Hits the High Desert

BEND, Ore. – Light snow began to fall over much of Central Oregon on Monday, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a winter weather advisory for the region. Snow was reported across several cities, including Bend, La Pine, Prineville, and Redmond, with overcast skies at Madras Airport.

The NWS in Pendleton issued the advisory, which is set to remain in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasts predict snow totals ranging from 2 to 6 inches across portions of Central, north-central, and northeast Oregon. While snowfall has been light so far, conditions are expected to worsen over the next few days, with moderate to heavy snow becoming more widespread.

“Travel could be difficult due to periods of moderate to heavy snow,” NWS forecasters said in their advisory, urging motorists to slow down and use caution. One of the main concerns is the potential for icy roads, as snow is expected to melt on the roads where it falls, refreezing overnight.

Local authorities are advising drivers to remain vigilant as the storm progresses and to prepare for hazardous road conditions, especially during the overnight hours. Snow and ice accumulation could create dangerous driving conditions, making it crucial for drivers to plan ahead and exercise care while traveling.

With snow expected to continue throughout the day, Central Oregon residents are urged to monitor weather updates and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
