Temporary Fix Applied to Pothole on Bellevue Drive in Bend’s Eastside

BEND, Ore. – A significant pothole on Bellevue Drive, located on Bend’s eastside, was temporarily filled in Wednesday, following its widespread attention on Central Oregon Daily News. The five-foot-wide and five-inch-deep crater, often referred to by locals as the “Bellevue Crater,” had been causing issues for residents and drivers in the area for an extended period.

In an effort to address the growing concern, an unknown individual or group filled the pothole with a mixture of dirt and gravel. While the fill appears to be a temporary fix, it offers some relief to those navigating the stretch of road, especially with the proximity of businesses, restaurants, and apartments in the area.

However, the situation remains complicated due to the private nature of the road. Since Bellevue Drive is not maintained by the city, it falls outside of the city’s jurisdiction, and city officials are unable to intervene directly. The property owner has yet to be identified, with local businesses and residents uncertain about whom to contact for permanent repairs. Attempts by Central Oregon Daily News to reach the owner were unsuccessful, as the listed phone number has been disconnected.

Despite the city’s efforts to locate the owner, they have also been met with silence. As a result, many in the area are left waiting for a resolution. With no immediate plans for a permanent fix, the makeshift solution may persist until someone takes responsibility for the property.

For now, drivers and local businesses are left hoping that a more permanent resolution to the “Bellevue Crater” will be found soon.
