North Bend Expands School Resource Officer Program to Enhance Safety and Support for Students

NORTH BEND, Ore. — The North Bend Police Department (NBPD) and the North Bend School District are expanding their School Resource Officer (SRO) program to further support the safety and well-being of students, staff, and families.

Starting on April 7, following spring break, Officer Sanne will join the district as the second School Resource Officer, working alongside Officer Jaehnig. This expansion will bolster safety efforts across the district, as Officer Sanne will primarily serve at North Bend Middle School and Hillcrest Elementary School, while Officer Jaehnig continues as the primary SRO at North Bend High School and North Bay Elementary School.

Officer Sanne, who has a strong background in community involvement, currently coaches the boys’ bowling team and youth baseball. Her active role in the community, combined with her law enforcement expertise, makes her a valuable addition to the SRO team, according to the police department.

The decision to expand the program comes as part of an ongoing commitment between the police department and the school district to create a positive and secure learning environment. Both entities have expressed their dedication to building strong relationships with students and staff while ensuring a safe and supportive atmosphere on school campuses.

“We greatly value our partnership with the North Bend School District and are excited to continue working together to support our schools,” said Chief Mitts of the North Bend Police Department. “Officer Sanne has big shoes to fill, and we are confident in her ability to serve our students and staff with dedication and care.”

The expanded SRO program aims to provide more resources for school safety and student engagement. By having two officers dedicated to different schools and age groups, the district hopes to enhance their ability to address potential security concerns and better connect with students. The officers will also serve as mentors, fostering positive relationships while maintaining a visible and approachable presence on campus.

In addition to increasing safety measures, the program expansion is intended to strengthen community ties, with both the police department and the school district working together to create a safe, positive space for students to learn and grow.

With the addition of Officer Sanne, the North Bend community continues its efforts to ensure a secure and nurturing environment for its young people, reinforcing the shared mission to protect and support the students who are the future of the area.
