Bend, OR— A fatal vehicle-pedestrian crash late Thursday night on U.S. Highway 97 claimed the life of one individual, according to Oregon State Police (OSP). The incident occurred at approximately 11:59 p.m. near milepost 85, about 10 miles north of Madras.

Details about the crash remain limited as authorities are awaiting notification of the deceased’s family. OSP has not released the identity of the victim at this time.

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) responded to the scene to assist with traffic control. Initially, both lanes of the highway were closed, but one lane was reopened around 2 a.m. After completing their investigation and clearing the scene, the highway was fully reopened before 3 a.m.
