DUII suspect arrested after eluding deputies and crashing stolen truck in Bend

Bend, OR – A 21-year-old Portland man was arrested after allegedly fleeing deputies, crashing a stolen truck, and being found unconscious behind the wheel in Bend, according to a joint release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Bend Police.

Deputies responded around 7:36 a.m. to a report of a possible impaired driver traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 97 toward Bend. The caller reported the vehicle was weaving and unable to maintain a consistent speed. Deputies later observed a Ford F-350 that had sideswiped the median on the Bend Parkway near Empire Avenue.

While deputies were contacting the driver, identified as Jaiden Robert Telford, he reportedly fled the traffic stop and headed southbound on Highway 97 at a high rate of speed. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle.

At about 8:05 a.m., Bend Police responded to a crash near NE Eighth Street and Bennington Lane. Officers determined the truck involved was the same Ford F-350 that had earlier eluded deputies. Law enforcement secured the vehicle and found Telford passed out behind the wheel. Officers believed he was experiencing a medical emergency and administered multiple doses of Narcan before he was transported to St. Charles–Bend for treatment.

Investigators later confirmed the truck had been reported stolen out of Multnomah County. The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash was not injured. NE Eighth Street was temporarily closed while officers investigated the incident. Oregon State Police assisted with the crash and DUII investigation.

Telford was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, attempt to elude, and reckless driving.
