Driver Crashes Into Home, Sparks Fire in Northeast Portland on Christmas Eve

Portland, OR – A Christmas Eve crash in Northeast Portland led to a fire after a vehicle struck a gas meter at a home in the Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood. The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. when the driver collided with the house, causing the gas line to rupture and ignite.

Portland Fire and Rescue crews were quickly dispatched to the scene, where they discovered the car lodged against the home’s gas meter, fueling the fire. Firefighters worked rapidly to remove the vehicle from the fire and control the blaze. In a collaborative effort with Northwest Natural, crews managed to clamp the gas line, preventing the situation from worsening.

While battling the flames, firefighters also attended to a family cat found at the scene. The animal was given oxygen and is believed to have survived the ordeal.

No further details have been released about the condition of the driver or the residents of the home. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, though it appears to have been an unfortunate and dangerous Christmas Eve incident.
