BEND, Ore. — A disturbing video circulating on social media shows a vehicle recklessly driving through Drake Park in downtown Bend, prompting public outrage and concern from local officials.
The footage, originally shared by Sprinter Vans of Bend, captures a driver veering off the road and onto the park’s pedestrian and bike paths. At several points, the van can be seen speeding across lawn areas, narrowly missing park-goers and ignoring clear boundaries prohibiting vehicles from entering the area.
A spokesperson for the Bend Park and Recreation District expressed deep disappointment over the incident, emphasizing that public parks are designated for pedestrians and recreational use only. “We are extremely disappointed to see this kind of behavior in one of our most beloved community spaces,” the spokesperson said. “Vehicles are absolutely not allowed in parks. This was not only dangerous but also disrespectful to everyone who uses the park.”
Local law enforcement has not yet released details regarding the identity of the driver or whether any arrests have been made. However, authorities are believed to be reviewing the video as part of an active investigation.
The incident has sparked conversations on social media about park safety and the need for increased surveillance or barriers to prevent future violations. Drake Park, a popular downtown destination known for its scenic riverfront and walkways, is typically a peaceful area for families, joggers, and cyclists.
Anyone with additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Bend Police Department.
