Crash in Downtown Roseburg Causes Damage and Gas Leak

Roseburg, OR – A crash in downtown Roseburg on Monday afternoon led to significant property damage and a gas leak, prompting the evacuation of a nearby home.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Pine and Rice streets around 3 p.m. According to the Roseburg Fire Department (RFD), the driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid hitting a dog, which caused them to lose control and leave the roadway. The vehicle then crashed through a fence, struck a stop sign, and sheared off a fire hydrant before hitting a residential structure at 553 SE Rice.

The collision also damaged a natural gas meter, resulting in a gas leak inside the home. Emergency crews quickly evacuated the residents to ensure their safety while firefighters worked to secure the leak.

Despite the severe damage to the vehicle and the property, the driver was uninjured in the crash. The cause of the incident is still under investigation, and authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage. No injuries were reported among the home’s occupants or first responders.

The Roseburg Fire Department urged drivers to exercise caution, especially around pets and animals on the road, to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
