Bend Seeks Public Input on Reed Market Road Railroad Crossing Improvements

Bend, OR— The city of Bend is inviting residents to take part in an open house to help shape the future of the Reed Market Road railroad crossing project. The event, designed to gather public input on potential improvements to the crossing, will be held both in-person and online. The project has been identified as a priority due to its importance as a vital east-west arterial in southeast Bend.

The in-person meeting will take place on Monday, Dec. 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Larkspur Community Center, located at 1600 SE Reed Market Road. For those unable to attend in person, an online option will be available from Dec. 4 through Dec. 18 at bendoregon.gov/reedmarket-rrcrossing.

The first phase of the project will focus on determining whether a bridge should be built over or a tunnel constructed under the railroad tracks on SE Reed Market Road. The goal is to separate the roadway from the railroad, thereby eliminating delays caused by train crossings and improving safety for all travelers.

The Reed Market Road crossing has long been a concern for the community, and addressing it is a key priority for the city. The project is partially funded through the voter-approved 2020 Transportation GO Bond. If all goes according to plan, construction of the new crossing is slated for 2027-2028.

City officials encourage residents to participate in the open house and provide their feedback on the proposed improvements. The input gathered will play a crucial role in shaping the direction of the project and ensuring that the final design meets the needs of the community.
