Bend Man Cited for Allegedly Selling Psilocybin From Vehicle

BEND, Ore. – A 42-year-old Bend man is facing criminal charges after authorities say he was caught selling psilocybin mushrooms and infused products directly from his vehicle.

According to Lt. Mike Landolt of the Bend Police Department, the arrest followed an investigation led by the Deschutes County Illegal Marijuana Market Enforcement (DCIMME) team in coordination with the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) team. The investigation involved surveillance and the execution of search warrants after officers reportedly witnessed a drug transaction involving the suspect.

Detectives searched the suspect’s vehicle and discovered a safe in the back containing a substantial quantity of psilocybin mushrooms and psilocybin-infused products. A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence yielded additional processed mushrooms, packaging materials, a firearm, and other evidence consistent with drug distribution, authorities said.

The man was issued a criminal citation on suspicion of delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance. As of Thursday afternoon, formal charges had not yet been filed.

Psilocybin, the psychoactive compound found in certain mushrooms, remains a Schedule I controlled substance under federal law, although Oregon has taken steps toward legalizing its supervised therapeutic use under regulated conditions. However, unlicensed sales and distribution remain illegal.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s name pending formal charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.
