Bend Man Arrested After Stealing Vehicle and Leading Police on High-Speed Chase

BEND, OR — A Bend man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading authorities on a high-speed chase, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph on Southeast Third Street. The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when the suspect reportedly took a vehicle without permission, prompting a pursuit by local police.

According to authorities, the suspect was driving recklessly as he sped through residential areas, endangering both pedestrians and other motorists. Officers were able to track the stolen vehicle and eventually apprehend the individual after he abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, now faces multiple charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and third-degree theft. Police are continuing their investigation and anticipate additional charges may be forthcoming.

The high-speed chase is a reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving, especially in populated areas. Law enforcement officials are commending the quick response of officers, who were able to safely bring the incident to a conclusion without any serious injuries.

The man is currently being held in the Deschutes County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
