Bend Bakery Hit by Vehicle Crash, Customer Injured by Flying Glass

Bend, OR — A loud crash shook the morning calm at Richards Donuts and Pastries in Bend on Sunday, as a vehicle plowed into the bakery’s front door, sending glass flying into the shop.

At approximately 9:50 a.m., a couple in their 70s or 80s arrived at the bakery and attempted to park their 2008 Toyota RAV4 in front of the store. The male driver accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to lurch forward and crash into a support beam and the front door of the building. The impact shattered the glass, sending debris inside the shop.

One customer, who was near the door at the time of the crash, suffered minor cuts from the flying glass. The customer was quickly treated at the scene by Bend Fire & Rescue personnel and was able to leave the area without further medical attention.

Witnesses at the scene described the couple as elderly, and fortunately, neither the driver nor his wife were injured in the incident. The couple, who were visibly shaken but unharmed, were not cited for the accident.

The bakery, known for its popular pastries, was temporarily closed for cleanup but quickly resumed normal operations following the incident. Authorities have not indicated any further action will be taken in connection with the crash.
